ARCOS facilitated the Development of a Regional Monitoring Framework for the Albertine Rift Region
The Albertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS) on behalf of the Core Group members - including WWF-EARPO, AWF, IGCP, DFGF-I, WCS, ITFC & MUIENR - with support from the MacArthur Foundation, is implementing a project on supporting sub-regional planning process and strengthening conservation action in the Albertine Rift region.
The goal of this project is to strengthen regional mechanism for regional monitoring mechanism and information sharing. It is within this context that ARCOS organised a two-day (4-5 July 2007) regional meeting for different organizations and government institutions involved in biodiversity monitoring in the five countries of the region.
The overall objective of the workshop was to develop a regional biodiversity monitoring framework for the Albertine Rift region. Especifically, the meeting sought to:
Define the monitoring scope at regional and landscape level
Establish regional criteria and agreed parameters and indicators for monitoring throughout the Albertine Rift.
Develop monitoring mechanisms and arrangements that promote compatibility, collaboration and coordination of management actions and strategy to fill the gaps.
